What is a Weapon of Mass Creation?
We like to describe a WMC as a “creative visionary who defies the hand they’re dealt.” Meaning they are passionate individuals who purse a creative medium in their own way and uphold high standards of quality, character, and work ethic. They’re leaders in their field.
Who is Go Media and what role do they play in WMC Fest?
Go Media is a smallish design firm in Cleveland. WMC Fest was the brainchild of one of the partners, Jeff Finley back in 2010. That’s me. (hi!) The event is largely spearheaded by myself and some of my comrades in the design community locally and nationally. But lots of busy, behind-the-scenes work is done by my colleagues at Go Media. We handle the higher level decision making. It’s a passion project for us and our values are reflected in WMC Fest. We are responsible for the design and branding of the festival and the web development (as that’s also something we are passionate about) . We simply love design, music, and the creative community. So we put on an event to share that passion.
How can I buy tickets?
You can purchase 3-day festival passes in advance here on our website or at the door. Advance passes are a great deal if you plan to soak up the entire festival. Day-of-show door prices are slightly more expensive ($25/day for speakers and $15/day for bands) but might be a better deal if you only plan to see one aspect of the fest. The design gallery is free and does not require passes.
Why Cleveland?
Because we live here and our hearts are in this city. We’re always the underdog and it’s important to all of us to help erase the reputation the national media gives our city. We’re just doing our part to help make Cleveland great and further its reputation as a creative powerhouse.
What is there to do in the area?
The Gordon Square Arts District is full of awesome retail shops, restaurants, bars, theaters and art galleries. Nearby Ohio City is also quite similiar, very hip, very creative. One of the finest areas of Cleveland if you ask us. We recommend Gypsy Bean Coffee, Ohio City Burrito, Capitol Theater, iLTHY, Happy Dog, Soupermarket, West Side Market, Market Garden Brewery, and many others.
What if I only want to see the bands (or speakers)?
Most attendees come to the fest to see a little of everything, but if you really just want to see one part you can. Just purchase a ticket day-of-show at the appropriate venue and you’re good. Weekend Passes purchases online in advance are the best deal, but we understand those who just want to pop in and see a few bands and leave.
How do I volunteer?
There are quite a bit of opportunities for volunteering. We’ve created a volunteer signup page for jobs needed during the days of the event. We also have a Street Team (or eTeam) that you want to help promote your favorite fest! If you have your own ideas of how you can help out, please let us know!
